- Mitt Romney found just the antidote for the cold shoulder he got in South Carolina Saturday -- a warm Florida reception Sunday night, Jan. 22, 2012. More than 2,000 people stood shoulder-to-shoulder at an Ormond Beach lumberyard, greeting Romney like the front-runner he had been in the Republican presidential primary before Saturday's double-digit defeat to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Romney aides called Sunday's turnout at Allstar Building Materials one of the best they've seen for a hastily organized rally.

- Long before there was a professional tennis tournament set to begin later this month at the city's relatively new tennis center, Palm Coast boasted the Players Club, which attracted hundreds of members and pro stars like Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi and Monica Seles, to name a few. Snoopy Comes Home

- Snoopy the pit bull, who got worldwide attention through an aggressive online campaign to spare his life, was returned to his owner Friday, Jan. 20, 2012. Snoopy had been quarantined by city officials because he wasn't wearing his muzzle on Dec. 27, when another dog, a Jack Russell terrier named Russy, broke free of his owner's leash and charged at the pit bull. Snoopy had been declared dangerous five years earlier after a fight with a different dog in his neighborhood.

Palm Coast Half Marathon

- With 352 runners finishing the Palm Coast Half Marathon and companion 5K race, the city streets were taken over by the latest race in the Palm Coast Running Series. The overall winner in the half marathon event was Ormond Beach resident Jacob Cole. The top woman finisher was Amelia Island resident Sarah Williams. Overall winner of the 5K race was Richard Watkins, while Carrie Meng took top honors among female racers in the 5K event.

- New Smyrna Beach made it interesting, but it was Spruce Creek that produced an area-best six individual class champions in winning Thursday's Five Star Conference girls weightlifting meet at Flagler Palm Coast High. The Hawks successfully defended their conference crown with 60 points and advanced 12 of 15 lifters to the District 6 meet on Feb. 25 at Spruce Creek Gymnasium.
