George Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Tensions in Sanford and across the country flared after the Neighborhood Watch captain reported and then shot the unarmed 17-year-old, only to be released by police. The Department of Justice is also investigating and Florida's stand-your-ground law as well as those in other states are under attack.

FILE - This file booking photo provided by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office shows George Zimmerman. Statements Zimmerman made to detectives after he fatally shot Trayvon Martin can be released to the public, a judge ruled Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
