Daytona Pier Opens for Business

  • The Daytona Beach Pier is open again to the public and it has a new Joe's Crab Shack restaurant perched on top of it. The pier and restaurant both had their official opening Tuesday, June 5, 2012, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included remarks from Mayor Glenn Ritchey, City Manager Jim Chisholm and other city officials. Joe's rooftop bar -- The Roof -- still needed work but finally opened on Friday, June 29, 2012.

Votran Trolleys

  • Starting July 19, tourists and locals will be able to get free passes to ride Votran’s trolleys along a route that stretches mostly along A1A from Ormond Beach to Daytona Beach Shores. The passes will be available at businesses along the trolley route, which runs from Granada Boulevard east of the bridge to State Road A1A to Dunlawton Avenue east of that road’s bridge. Beach Street between International Speedway Boulevard and Orange Avenue is included, too.

Art of the Automobile

The inaugural "Art of the Automobile" event on Beach Street in Daytona Beach brought nearly 1000 machines both vintage and new, tens of thousands of spectators, film crews from shows like "Car Crazy" and "Muscle Car Workout," racing teams, groups like the Corvette Club, British Car Club, Porsche Club, and lots and lots of photographers. Areas on the lawn were broken up into eras -- 1940s, 1950s, etc -- with music to match.
