Everything had gone right for the DeLand football team this season. Everything. The Bulldogs were faster, bigger and tougher than everyone they played, and the one team that beat them, Mainland, got smacked around by the Bulldogs in the playoff rematch.
But no matter how good you are, there's always the chance someone else is a little better.
And if the DeLand players and fans are honest with themselves this morning, they'll admit Miramar was a lot better Saturday night in their 42-20 win at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

On a rainy, sloppy night, the Bulldogs (12-1) advanced to its first state semifinals, where it will play next Friday at Apopka -- a 7-0 winner Friday over Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast-- for a berth in the state championship game.
