Daytona Beach House Fire

- The second story of a house on Michigan Avenue caught fire Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, and firefighters believe the blaze is suspicious. The fire erupted at 315 Michigan -- a short street off North Ridgewood Avenue, just after 9 a.m., said Lt. Larry Stoney. The owner of the residence lives in Atlanta, Stoney said, and it looked like he was beginning to refurbish the property.

Loud Booms: Warship Training

- A group of warships training off the coast of Florida has residents in DeLand hearing booms loud enough to rattle their windows and scare their cats.
The USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group departed Norfolk, Va., Jan. 11 and has been training for the past few weeks in Florida, said Miriam Gallet, a spokeswoman for the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville.

Deadly I-75 Crash

- Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the horrific pileup south of Gainesville, where a long line of cars and trucks collided one after another on a dark highway so shrouded in haze and smoke that drivers were blinded. At least 10 people were killed and another 18 were taken to a nearby hospital, Shands at the University of Florida. As of Sunday night, six patients remained in the trauma center and three others admitted through the emergency room remained.
